At the height of the crack epidemic in New York City in 1986, Keith Haring painted a mural on a handball court at 128th and 2nd Avenue without City permission. The mural is still there. Today it's officially called "Crack is Wack Playground" - a unique name for a park.
You pass within several feet of it when driving south on the Harlem River Drive before the highway makes the big curve at 125th Street. I've passed it hundreds of times driving home to Astoria, but never stopped for a closer look. Earlier this fall when Peter and I were returning from Bronx adventures we got off the highway and paid a visit.
The reverse side - which is not visible when speeding by on the Harlem River Drive - is very nice too.
